Vernon Collenette

Vernon, or VG as he was known, attended Elizabeth College  from 1936 to 1943 before becoming a master there in 1948. He was in exile during the war years when he took pupils from the school to Derbyshire. He was mainly known for his athletics prowess having set island records on his return in the long jump (6.88m), high jump (1.84m), triple jump (13.12m), as well as 100 and 200 yards.

He was captain of the GICC in 1949 and was made captain of Guernsey in the first Inter Insular of 1950. He also captained in 1954 and 1961. In his 3 innings he aggregated 36 runs  and bowled 12.1 overs with 1 wicket for 44 at an economy rate of 3.64.

Vernon was listed 80th in the All time Top 100 Guerney Sporting Heroes  by Rob Batiste in his Big Book of Guernsey Sport, published in 2016.
