International status granted

The first T20 Inter-Insular Series to be held in Guernsey has been officially ratified as full internationals. Following the inaugural three-match series played in Jersey last year, the cricket boards of the respective islands have announced that it will become a permanent feature of the summer calendar. However, the prestige and honour afforded to nay ‘Green versus Red’ match-up has increased after the ICC’s decision to recognise authorised T20 fixture played after 1 January 2019 between Associate members as full Internationals. Officially, the first Inter-Insular contest to take on that mantle will be the women’s match that precedes the opening game of the men’s series on Friday 31 May. This year will also see the return of the traditional 50-over Inter-Insular Trophy in August, and with this in mind the T20 matches will become known as the InfrasoftTech T20I Inter-Insular Cup, with a new trophy to be presented to the winners. ‘We are very grateful to Wayne Gallichan and the team at InfrasoftTech for their support in ensuring we can put on the proper event the matches deserve. This year will be a busy T20 schedule for Guernsey, including hosting he ICC T20 Men’s World Cup Europe Finals in June, and these games will assist that preparation immensely’, said Guernsey Cricket CEO Mark Latter. Ward Jenner, chairman of the Jersey Cricket Board, added, ‘2019 is a big year for both islands and the fact that these games are now Full T20 International games gives JCB, GCB and InfrasoftTech the recognition they deserve’.
