‘Finalists confirmed after final day’s play’     Andrew Nixon        Cricket Europe

The line-up for next year’s European regional qualifying final has been confirmed, with Germany, Guernsey and Jersey joining Italy, Denmark and Norway, who all secured their  place yesterday.

In Group A, Germany qualified despite a two run defeat to Austria. Armaan Randhawa top scored for the Austrians with 42 as they scored 142-6 from their 20 overs. Germany fell just short with 140-6, but the Austrians hadn’t won by enough to lift their net run rate above that of Germany.
The other group A matches saw Denmark easily beat France by 73 runs, largely thanks to Rizwan Mahmood’s knock of 72, and Portugal pick up their first win of the tournament with a five wicket win over Cyprus.

In Group B, Jersey batted first after winning the toss against Finland. Benjamin Ward and Jonty Jenner put on 72 for the first wicket before the latter was out for 40 from the first ball of the ninth over. Ward was eventually the fourth man out having scored 36. The final total for Jersey was 130. Ben Kynman then took 4-10 to bowl the Finns out for 66 to secure a 64 run win and their place in the regional final.
The other group B matches saw Italy complete a relatively simple 8 wicket win over the Isle of Man and Spain beat Belgium by 4 wickets.

Guernsey’s place in the final was confirmed by a thumping win over the Czech Republic in Group C. Batting first, a Matt Stokes innings of 80 helped the Channel Islanders score 181-4 from their 20 overs. Anthony Stokes then took 4-10 as the Czechs were bundled out for just 59, losing by 122 runs.
In the other Group C matches, Sweden beat Gibraltar by 31 runs thanks to an unbeaten 72 by Raz Ahsik Imitaz, whilst Norway beat Israel by 24 runs.
