‘Greens defeat Ghana’   by Gareth Le Prevost

GUERNSEY will play off with Germany for fifth place in ICC World Cricket League tomorrow after defeating Ghana yesterday in South Africa.

Having been asked to bat first, the Sarnians were bowled out for 213 with Matt Stokes, coming in at number four for the first time this tournament, top scoring with 75 made from 99 balls. He hit seven boundaries. Opener Ben Fitchet had attacked early on with three fours and two sixes in his 31 from 21 balls while other useful contributions came from Ben Ferbrache and captain Jamie Nussbaumer down the order. After Ollie Newey and Stokes had claimed three early wickets at the start of the reply, a fourth wicket stand of 89 got Ghana back into the game, but David Hooper broke that partnership before Nussbaumer picked up three wickets to seal a 23-run victory. Afterwards Nussbaumer said, ‘The guys kept fighting and we battled through. We got over the line and it would be nice to have an easy win one of these days.’
